Lil Renzo and Friends Light Up the Farmington Music Scene for 4th of July Weekend

By 8pm on Saturday the parking lot at Dino’s Hideaway and Lounge (405 Cr 390, Farmington) was already packed and the sounds of bass could be heard even throughout the neighborhood across the street. Hip hop music lovers from Farmington to Arizona filled the venue and vibed along to opening performers such as T-Haze, Marshall Tha Man, Steve Rayx and Bennie Blanc who set an awesome scene- each with their own unique style that made the show instantly fun. Double X-L then performed front and center with tons of energy and even had a drone that flew through the inside of the lounge capturing video of him and the crowd. His impressive lyrical style hyped up his fans immensely and his stage presence was a force that was magnetic, proving he’s one of the best performers in New Mexico. He posed for pictures with a handsome grin and was extremely gracious and personable to anyone that approached him after the show.

The crowd was on their feet by the time Lil Renzo took the stage. While performing a whole set list including his fan-favorite song “Welcome to the 505.” The crowd was singing every word right along with him and the energy in the room was bursting. It was very evident how connected his fans were with him by the way they each lined up to meet him after his performance. He made the time to take pictures with every single fan and was so personable doing it. It really reflects on him as a person and how he balances his relationships with his passion for music. When I asked how hard it is to find that balance between his music and being a family man he says: “It gets a little hard now and then because my daughter who is 9 now has autism and I have to be with her a little more sometimes, but when she’s in her room or with her mom I hit the studio and try to get some work done- there’s always time.” You can tell from the way he talks about his life that he’s a busy man with so many things he enjoys putting his time into. He says he likes to draw and play basketball, he even used to animate things as another outlet. “As of late I’ve just been going in on the music, I like to create things, I like music because youre making something.”

Being his first trip to the Farmington area, I asked how he likes it- “It feels good to be here.” He said he traveled some of our back roads and likes how green it is here this time of year. It's no secret his fans and social media followers were ecstatic to have him here in the 4 corners area. They could be heard still singing his words out loud in the lounge while playing pool long after he had finished performing. It's a message everyone in the room connected with, a source of pride in being a New Mexican and being a fan of good hip hop music all at the same time. Lil Renzo understands what makes us special as he says in his song “We far from the usual.” and in turn we feel special when we hear him say it. If living in New Mexico needed a hip hop soundtrack I'm pretty sure Lil Renzo is creating it.

This was the first of many incredible shows brought to the area by Pinky's Productions so be sure to follow along for more upcoming shows!
