Parenting in 2023 is not an easy task. In fact many moms these days are finding themselves working long hours, caring for children and households and getting less and less sleep. There’s a really unhelpful stigma in our society regarding moms who use Cannabis. Many moms who do are quickly deemed “lazy” or “bad moms” without regard to what positive things it brings to help these busy parents manage and balance their lives. Many moms are choosing Cannabis as a safer alternative to help them with physical ailments as well as to promote healthy relaxation and sleep.
Cadra Guillory is one professional and mom from Farmington, New Mexico who used to take prescription medications for ADHD, Depression and Anxiety. The 25 yr old mother of an adorable 1 yr old boy and green chile saleswoman says that she stopped taking her prescribed medications upon learning she was pregnant and opted to research strains with specific effects to help alleviate her problems. “I haven’t looked back. Cannabis gives me dopamine so it helps me battle problems that I would naturally avoid, helps me stay focused and on track.” Keeping up with an active 1 yr old baby is a task that any mom out there can tell you is not an easy one. But at the end of the day, being able to let go of stress and devote herself to being a mom is something Cannabis dabs help her to do. “Cannabis helps me to decompress for a moment and it loosens my tension that’s been built up all day. It makes it so I can give my son the very best version of me even after a long, crazy day, I'm able to get down on the floor and play with my kid. I feel like it makes me just a little less serious and a little more fun because I can engage with him in ways I always hear other moms say they wish they could do.”
With the more recent change in laws allowing recreational Cannabis here in New Mexico come some changing attitudes towards moms who use Cannabis. It seems commonplace to see moms who reach for that glass of wine after a hard day and no one bats an eye, but if a mom excuses herself to divulge in a bit of flower or take a dab suddenly it's a problem. It’s unfair to hard working parents who are simply trying to find and keep a balance in their lives that Cannabis is giving them. Cadra says that perhaps someday laws and regulations would allow children to be allowed into the dispensary in much the same way that young supervised children are allowed to enter liquor stores under the watchful eye of parents. “I used to spend 15-20 minutes looking at all the products and getting what I truly wanted, but now I get in and get out or place an online order because I can’t bring my child with me but moms can easily buy alcohol with a baby on their hip.” It’s unsure what the future holds in terms of regulations but one thing is for certain, the attitude towards moms who are using Cannabis and still handling their lives like rockstars is changing one dab and dirty diaper at a time.
